Instant Malayi Peda - Microwave Milk Fudge.... More Bdays to cherish

I love birthdays.. your loved ones wishing  good for you , laughing with you, each moment of pure joy being cherished. And then there starts the journey for another one,  a whole year, 365 days.. to spend again .. waiting for the same moment to come back. A fantasy in itself , isn’t it ??

As a kid, I was always very keen on the gifts. Late night when everyone was gone back, gifts were being opened with closest family members, opening them up gently, gradually.. treasuring each one of them and did you also used to keep those wrapping papers intact for another gift ?? Well, that was  really some time, don’t think kids of today’s generation would do that.. Or maybe they also do the same , its only me who is ignorant of the times :)

There is no specific reason am getting emotional today, it’s not my birthday anyways :).. but lately, I have been to many birthdays celebrations of our friends, their kids and family. It’s a busy month, September.. No complaints though, am relishing all the fun, pleasure and cakes.. I might whine next month after stepping over the Weighing scale again :P

Yesterday was yet another Birthday of our very dear friend, who is very sweet and is fond of sweets himself.. I wanted to make something for him, but had a tight schedule after office. I remembered, Sonal got some Pedas for our Meet in Lodnon, and I instantly knew what to make. Thanks Sonal for helping me out with the Instant recipe :) and a Birthday wish again to my friend whom I prepared these for.

This is a very easy recipe which can be jotted up in hardly 10 minutes. And that is literally 10 minutes. All you need are the ingredients and mug them up for a perfect quick dessert, that too in Microwave. All in all, a fuss free choice for those late night cravings, calorie cautious people .. please beware ;)

What you need ?

  • 1 Can sweetened Condensed Milk (  I used Nestle Light )
  • 1 1/4 cup Milk Powder ( I took skimmed Milk Powder )
  • 1/4 cup Ghee
  • 1 tbsp chopped Pistachios
  • 1 tsp Cardamom
  • Few strings of Saffron

How to make ?

  •  Melt Ghee in a microwave friendly Bowl. Mix in Condensed milk and Milk powder together and give a    nice stir to mix everything together.

  • Microwave for 4 minutes, take out and add Cardamom Powder and Pistachios, give a nice stir.

  • Microwave again for 4 minutes, take out and let it cool for 1-2 minutes. Apply ghee on you palms and roll out small balls, sprinkle Saffron  on top and enjoy warm or at room temperature.

  • Can be kept at room temperature for a day and 2-3 days in fridge.

My Notes:

  • Do not increase the quantity of Milk Powder, it will give cracks in the final Pedas when Cool off.
  • You can also add assorted nuts, finely chopped for different flavours.
  • One of my friend added Rose Essence to the mixture before shaping into balls... You can also try Kewda Essence.

  13. This recipe took me back to my days in Manila. I tried pedas with milk powder there for the first time and now they are my quick fixes for most of the parties with all kinds of variations and twists in terms of flavors. The clicks are phenomenal, Nupur. The first one almost took my tongue off. :P

  16. This looks good. I have been planning to make this for some time. Nothing like fresh homemade pedas.

PS - poppy seeds is one ingredient I honestly do not use as much. Could you give some tips on how to use it effectively? I am never able to make a smooth paste.
