These days am issuing or buying a lot of books for exploring new cooking ventures. Baking Bible is one of the Library books which am renewing for the last 3 months. Although, I have hardly cooked anything but some cookies and a batch of muffins. That's the height of laziness, agreed. But whenever I look at the recipes offering melt in the mouth taste, I sigh for the butter melting instead. And for the All purpose flour, as not every recipe can be made using whole flour. I have already wasted a lot of time, energy and effort in bringing up the recipes right with the Whole wheat flour. Why does this taste come only with side effects.. Sod it !
But anyways, my 'en devour' with trying healthy substitutes for the recipes wont 'end ever'. As of now, these rolls are served as breakfast with tea or coffee. Off-course, I replaced some of the APF with WWF.. Hey god no !!... WWF a.k.a Whole wheat flour. They were wonderfully crispy outside and warm soft from inside. At the least, am using the book now .. Sigh !!!!!!1.
Ingredients:
1. 2 tbsp softened butter
2. 1 tsp salt
3. 2 cups all purpose flour
4. 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
5. 1 tsp Sugar
6. 2 tsp dry yeast
7. 1 cup buttermilk / milk / water, lukewarm
8. 1 egg
Method:
1. Beat butter and salt in a bowl softly. Add the flour and make a well in the center.
2. In another bowl, sprinkle yeast over the lukewarm liquid ( Milk OR water OR buttermilk ). Leave for 5 minutes to dissolve and froth up. Add to the well and stir in the egg.
3. Grease a baking tray. Knead the flour- yeast mix by hand for several minutes. Now shape the dough into a large cylinder like a Swiss roll.
4. Cover and allow to rise for 30 minutes in a warm place to double the size.
5. Knock back the dough, kneading thoroughly. Cut into 10-12 equal pieces.
6. Shape rolls and place on the baking tray. If they are placed close together they will be soft on the sides, if there is 1 in space between them, they will be crusty. Its your call.
7. Bake for 20-25 min. Cool on wire rack.
Notes:
1. I did not add any herbs to it since it was the first time. You can add mixed herbs to the rolls for better taste.

Looks soft and perfect with soup
